Nordic Angels is a collaborative angel investment network dedicated to strengthening the Nordic startup ecosystem by connecting investors with startups. The platform offers investment and networking features, along with resources and events designed to enhance investor involvement and drive results in the Nordic region.

Challenge

Creating a next generation investment platform

Ash Pournori and Andreas Grape envisioned a social networking product to connect investors, as well as to unlock easier communication and deal-flow for investors. They needed a tech partner experienced in building FinTech and Social Networking platforms.

The product vision was aimed to create a seamless investor experience, solve portfolio management issues, find relevant investors for specific deals, enable co-investment with high trust, as well as to unify the investment community in a single platform - something missing on the market at that point of time.

“Let’s do it!” was our response.

Solution

Strategic partnership

After our initial meetings with the founders, we decided to invest in Nordic Angels at the pre-seed stage and form a strategic partnership.

Next step? Assembling a strong core team to develop the next-generation investment platform and community for investors.

Design and Discovery phase

To refine the product vision and requirements, we formed a product trio consisting of a Product Manager, Tech Lead, and Designer.

Starting from an existing Figma prototype, the team redesigned, prototyped, and validated a new solution for a community mobile app to facilitate investor connections and collaboration.

We went with a lean architecture with a full-stack JavaScript/TypeScript stack on MongoDB to ensure speed and efficiency in this phase.

MVP development - Mobile-first

Nordic Angels launched as an invite-only social network mobile app, quickly attracting thousands of signups and achieving high user NPS scores.

The app, built with React Native and a Node.js/NestJS backend on top of MongoDB, featured deal-sharing - a custom social networking architecture to provide a platform for investors to connect with each other in a simple way.

Web app and Integrations

Based on user feedback, we moved forward by developing a web app with enhanced features like easier deal-sharing, improved social networking functionalities, and news.

Integrations, including one with the portfolio management platform Swimbird, were added to allow investors to track their portfolios directly from the app.

Where are we at now?

With an ambitious vision, Nordic Angels has expanded beyond Sweden to establish local communities and events across the Nordics.

In cooperation with Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Nordic Angels created a deep dive report into the angel investment climate of Europe - first of its kind.
